Strummer Room Records is owned and run by Chris Oakes. The Strummer Room started life as an independent music project which became involved in the organisation of small festivals and gigs within Oxfordshire, UK. Including a regular radio show on Radio Horton and Puritans Radio promoting and featuring music from local bands and artistes. Chris opened a small 2nd hand vinyl record shop “Strummer Room Records - Mark 1” on the top floor of Antique Modern Mix in Parsons Street, Banbury in 2018 and moved to the current premises at 1 Church Lane, Banbury in February 2020. Additionally there is now an extensive range of rock and pop vinyl (LPs & 45s) and CDs priced at between £0.50 and £2.00, plus a good selection of individually priced play-tested collectable vinyl, courtesy of online record dealer Vinyl Destiny Records ( est. 2001) (www.vinyldestiny.co.uk) Travelling from central London is easy; there are two fast trains per hour from London Bridge straight to New Eltham. There’s a stunning selection of rare soul 45s but they also do nice lines in Doo Wop, 50s Rock, Rockabilly and Country. Soul survivors can never go back to Wigan Casino, but an afternoon of crate-digging here may be something of a consolation

Phonica Records was established in September 2003 by founders Simon Rigg and set up shop in Soho, London, adding to the high concentration of independent records stores that inhabited the area around Berwick Street. Founders; Simon Rigg, Heidi Vanden Amstel and Tom Relleen joined The Vinyl Factory with the aim of creating an exciting outlet for innovative dance music, traversing all sub-genres and cultures. Over the past decade the emporium has developed into a well-respected destination for DJs and enthusiasts, and has subsequently become a bustling hive of conversation and inspiration as part of a wider community of music lovers. While trends and movements in music have grown and faded over these years, Phonica has always remained in a state of evolution. It is this openness to change alongside a commitment to it's original ethos and an enduring ardour for quality, cutting-edge sounds that has fuelled the shop's staying power.
